I'm sorry I can't find my regs book and I was thinking about going fishing Sunday if I can. Curious if the American river at Watt closes for Steelhead and Salmon fishing soon or has it already. If so when does it open again. Thanks for your help

(E) American River (Sacramento County) From
the Jibboom Street Bridge to the mouth.
July 16 through Dec. 31. 1 hatchery trout
or 1 hatchery
steelhead**
2 king salmon
Jan 1 through Jul 15. 1 hatchery trout
or 1 hatchery
steelhead**
0 salmon

I found the regs. Does this area include the Watt River access and areas like Sailor Bar?

(C) From the U.S. Geological Survey gauging
station cable crossing about 300 yards downstream
from the Nimbus Hatchery fish rack site
to the SMUD power line crossing at the southwest
boundary of Ancil Hoffman Park.
Jan. 1 through Oct. 31.
Only barbless hooks may be used.
1 hatchery trout
or 1 hatchery
steelhead**
3 king salmon

Or would it be this one? I know I need a map. :(

The section you want is (5), (D) From the SMUD power line crossing at Ancil Hoffman Park downstream to the Jiboom Street Bridge. 8)

The area you're want to fish is included in a lengthy stretch of water. You might want to get a map of the river either from AAA (if you're a member) or from the County Parks & Rcereation Department. The county parks map is small enough to fit into a pocket when folded. There're other maps of the river available, too.

The county parks map is available from most fly fishing shops, canoe/kayak shops, REI and on-line, direct, from the county for a small fee. :)

Good luck :D :D :D

Alright, so now I am confused. Is Watt open or closed as of Nov 1?

The river is open, except for the area between the hatchery at Hazel Ave and the wire crossing the river at Ancil Hoffman Park from Nov 1 - Jan 1.. Basically everything downstream from Goethe Park is open all year long. Anybody hear any different?

You can fish Watt Ave, year-round.
