Go to the Trinity NOW. And I mean right now. Don't even finish reading this report. Get up and go now. If you wait any longer it may be too late.

After what seemed to be a bummer for Pimpinmeat and myself, for whatever reason the fish God Smiled on us in an unusual way.

We were set to hit the Klamath on Friday for 4 days of Steelheading.
I picked Pimp up and Sac. international on thur. evening at 10:00pm. At this point I already know the Klamath is out of the question. It is quickly rising and now letup in site. We decide to stay in Redding and fish the lower Sac, which we do on Fri and Sat. It absolutely poured on us on Friday, but we managed a handful of trout and a few salmon. Saturday we hit it again for basically the same results. Sat. nite we decide to try the Trinity.

We launch above the Junction City Bridge. People and boats everywhere. Fish are moving through EVERYWHERE. In the 2nd or 3rd run 1 guy tells us he has never seen so many fish in the river at one time. There are Salmon and Steelhead everywhere. About an hour and a half in we finally get a good looking run to ourselves and on the third or fourth cast I stick a beaut. A nice, chrome brite 25+ inch wild fish that fought over 10 minutes. Everytime I get her to the net, off she runs. We do this 5-6 time before the battle finally ended. Steelhead 1, Fin&Pimp 0.

About an hour later we come upon a bank fisherman and exchange pleasantries and he invites us to fish the run above him. We take him up on the offer, park the boat and move into position. Within 10 casts, I'm hooked up with a beast of a steelie. This fish goes down deep and for a moment I think she has my line wrapped around a rock cuz I'm pulling pretty hard and she aint budgin. Up river, down river, across river, my reel is screamin. (My favorite sound). Just then Pimp says, "Fish On" A double. Kirk, (bank fisherman) gets my net and assists in netting my fish, a 29 inch wild beast that went at least 10 lbs. He snaps a pic and we deceide to keep her in the net so we can get a pic of both fish together. 5 minutes later Pimps fish is in the net and the camera is rollin. Fin&Pimp 2, Steelhead 1.

After a few handshakes and hi fives, its back to the river. Within five minutes I'm into another big fish. This battle doesn't last nearly as long, 3-4 minutes and the Steelhead evens up the score. But then, Pimp is into another and 7-10 minutes later its Fin&Pimp 3, Steelhead 2. Meanwhile Kirk has hooked at least 5 fish below us and landed 3. (maybe more, I lost count) This was by far the craziest hour and a half of Steelhead fishing in my life. You know we'll be back tomorrow.

Monday morning, on the river at 7:30. On the first run we park the boat and wade a gravel bar with a nice run for no take downs. Fished it a good 40 minutes then decide to head on. Get in the boat and start casting and Pimp hooks up. about a 23 inch hatchery fish. Fin&Pimp 4, steelies 2. We walk the boat back up to the top and start drifting down, this time Pimp is on the sticks. Again, at the bottom of the run, fish on. Another 26 inch fish with a 10 dollar tag in its dorsal fin. I collect my 10 bucks and send that fish on her way. Fin&Pimp 5, steelies 2. Nice start to the morning, 2 fish by 9:00am.

No more fish till noon when things broke wide open for Pimp. To make a long story short and not to bore you with the same details(you shouldn't be reading this anyway, you should have already left for the Trinity,) Pimp lands another 5 adults and looses 2. Pimp also gets a 10 dollar tag, which means we made like 15 dollars, or something like that.
Final score Fin&Pimp 10, Steelies 4.

What started out as a downer on Friday nite turned into the Trip of the year by Monday nite. Crazy how things work out like that. Maybe I'll take Wayne to HappyCamp this weekend. He'll probably outfish me too.

This was day one on the Trinity

The best steelhead fishing I've seen and at one point I hooked fish on back to back cast. Awesome trip and thanks to Fin for hooking a brother up.

Last years run on the Trinity River was unbelievable and this year its even bigger?

I told you about the 5 mile long school of Anadromous fish down on the lower Klamath River a week ago spotted by some guys in a helocopter....

I think it sound like the way it was 50 years ago? Kind of like Alaska today.

If the weather is right this winter could be like last years on many Nor Cal Steelhead rivers.

Wow, we are leaving for the Klamath (Trees of Heaven) in the morning and then will fish the Rogue on Saturday and will be on the Trinity in Willow Creek on Sunday. Great pictures, I am hoping to get some time in at the Steele Bridge and Lewiston. See you on the River(s).

The Klamath should be prime at that time. Rods talking about going to Happy Camp but there's no way I can go this time. Good luck, should be real good.

Yup, I'm outta here at 6:00am tomorrow. I don't expect the same wide open action, but who knows. Will post a report when I return.
