Just curious about how much longer the steelhead will be in the American? As it get's colder does the steelhead fishing improve along with the samon?

I don't know how much longer, but I'm sure they'll be here until at least March or so. I caught this steelie this morning on a dry on my 5th cast. Used a #16 EHC at a secret riffle and missed him the first two times. On the third drift he lept out of the water at least 2 feet for the take and made another 5-6 wild leaping fits before brought to hand on my 4 wt. The fight lasted 7-10 minutes on 5X tippet. Best I've done this year. Finally broke out of the 10"-14" rut I've been in these past couple of years. :D

I'll try to get the "on water" pics off my camera phone later. FYI, this hatchery chromer was "harvested" and will make a fine companion to the abalone, artisan bread and chardonay this evening.

Cheers!

Beautiful fish.....I am sure it will be tasty.

Hoping to get into some this afternoon / evening. Hope to see that the rain brought the bite back.

We shall see.

Yea. I've heard a good thing or two about them. You can get yourself another one at Kienes. You know, for your 4/5 wt? BTW, the fish not good enough for comment? HeHeHe

Cheers!

Great looking fish. I wonder if your secret riffle and mine are the same?? We fished Rossmore to Gristmill today 8 hooked fish and half those landed. We hooked three 16-18 inch fish in the secret riffle, landing the first, a hatchery fish. The other 2 jumped 3-5 times and after putting up a good fight, they won. The others were 9-11 inch fish. All in all a nice day spent on the A.

Rooster, did I see you on the river today? I was 1 of three in a drift boat.

I have taken ( or have seen taken ) Steelies EVERY month of the year on the A .

Water temps are the key ........

jlmelend,

Indeed you did hook my fish's cousin. Nice one. Caught on dry, nymph or streamer? :?:

Caught on a copper assassin with 4x fluoro-tippet, 5 weight line at a drop off at the bottom of a riffle. Not a huge fish, but remarkably looks a lot like yours and fought a good fight. He was released post-photo-op.

Regards and good fishing to you all,
Joe

Really nice fish. I think I will be out again this weekend to give it another try.
