This is a big month for fly fishing for Steelhead especially if you like to swing flies.

They are in many longer rivers now.

Look for them in our local rivers like the lower reaches of the American, Feather, Yuba and Sacramento. AM and PM is best.

They are in the lower Klamath, lower Trinity and lower Rogue too.

Try the Umpqua and Deschutes now too.

When it is warm in early fall most like to get out on the water extremely early while the light is low.

About 4:00pm till dark is another good period.

Noon till 4:00pm is usually slow.

Let us know if you need any advise or help planning a SH trip.

October is a killer month too.

Has anyone been to the lower Trinity lately? I'm going Sunday and was just trying to figure out where to start. I'm thinking near Willow Creek?? ?Or should I go down further? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanx. -Brian-

come up to the salem area and i would love to show you. the santiam is a flows into the wilamette, and the john day goes straight into the columbia. the wilamete is much more of a gear river, but i have found a couple nice gravel bars that are good for spey casting. the clack i s really nice river, it has so much access, and it almost flows directly next to portland.

i love oregon, so much water, so little time

Do you ever fish the Hood or Sandy? I was thinking about trying my luck that way in Feb 08 for some Steelies.

hood is good, but you have to work around alot of structure for your fish, the only real accessible part is from the mouth and about 300 yrds up. the sandy is an amazing spey river. for info on the hood call the "gorge fly shop" --541-386-6977

good luck- if your ever in the salem area dont hesitate to shoot me a pm, i am always looking for a fishing partner
