Aloha, I know it is not on the fly, but I got this 50lb ahi on 30lb test. It hit a popper and I ended up battling it for 1 1/2 hours. My arms are still sore, tomorrow I will be using the 12wt. I hope you guys like sashimi. Mems.

Don,
that's a great fish no matter how you took him. On a 12 weight you might still be hanging on. :D

Aloha...Nice Ahi Mems! Was this during the pelagic tournament? If so, did this win or place?
Keep the pix coming!

Nice going!

Joe

Thanks guys for the comments. Yes Joe it was during the tournament and I got this mahi today, but did not win. That honor went to a 500lb marlin. Tonight mahi-mai and ceviche for pupus! Hope you guys have a fun labor day, Mems.

Hey Darian, I forgot you don't eat this kinda fish often. Ahi sashimi is the easiest. Take a nice center block of raw ahi and cross cut thin slice the sucker. Then dip each piece in shoyu with wasabi stirred up and you are ready to roll. I also do a killer blackened sashimi, all you need for that is blackened redfish mix. Roll the block in that, then lightly sear each side of the ahi block and thin slice. Those are two of my favorites. Mahi makes good sashimi also, but I think I am going to take the head pieces and make ceviche with that meat. Should be good. Time to grind, Mems.

Hey Don,.... That really sounds good. The only thing to add is a premium Sake, served chilled and maybe some edamame. MMM, MMM..... :D :D :D
