We had a couple of mixed breed black doggies that got old and went to doggy heaven.

I think when we retire we will get another small dog or two?

A few years ago I went on a road trip to Kamloops, British Columbia with Chris Pasley. We took Chris' Suburban and pulled a small boat on a trailer. He brought his two big dogs that drooled on my most of the way. At first I was not too excited because we had them in a 10 foot pram with us.

After being with them for a week and having them sleep on me in the tent I nearly cried when I had to leave them at the end of the trip. They were so lovable, just big puppies.

The sun setting behind the lab was nice. I grew up with a golden retriever and a golden lab, both dogs were very friendly and very special. The rat terrier ridding on the pontoon boat is funny and it reminded me of a picture of my parent's dog.

My Father and I brought his Schipperke along with us on a trip to Fuller Lake a few years back. We brought a little inflatable boat so that he could tag along, we tethered the boat to my Father's float tube.

This picture was taken with a film camera and I used my digital to take a picture of the original picture so that I could share this fun picture with you guys, thanks to a little bit of help from photoshop to color correct and crop.

This thread is AWESOME!

James, you have some good looking dog. What are you training your dog to do, it was impressive but is there a special purpose or is it just for fun and fitness?

Wooly Bugger, those dog shoes are great, so is the dog's "back pack." Labs are great dogs. Nice portrait as well, good looking dog.

I took a picture of a dog with shoes on because I found it very funny, in your dogs case they serve a purpose to protect the paws against the sharp rocks and stuff, not in this case:

Working/sporting dogs will NEVER quit on you! I realized that one day when we were about 5 miles into a hike before I discovered that his pads were bleeding like crazy. He never slowed down or even showed the slightest bit of pain. I, however, hadn't felt guilt like that for quite some time. Needless to say, the "shoes" were purchased as soon as we returned to civilization. No problems since. As for the backpack, when I'm already carrying 4 or 5 days worth of supplies on my back, I figure the least he can do is carry his own food. Again, no complaints from him!

Sweet shoes on the golden, but the look on the dogs face just screams: "Please don't look at my silly shoes. It was my owners decision, not mine."

If an Aussie can jump a 7ft fence, run 18ft up a wall to a bait and hang on, long jump 30+ ft into sand and pull 30x or more than his weight than he may be able to contend with a pit bull. I've seen pits pull cars, bring down pigs and bulls, and even saw a 35 lb female trained in policework knock a 6ft 180lb man flat on his ass.

But hey, maybe you know an Aussie that can do that.

Don't you think if Aussies could "skin most dogs" alive Michael Vick would have a kennel full of them instead?

I'll just leave out the time my dog met a loose aussie

But Winston is definitely the best looking one I've ever seen!

Ed Wahl

Relax James, I have the utmost respect for what a pit can do. I've also seen what working ranch dogs can do, they seem to have more than their fair share of attitude and blinding speed. Speaking of speed, I had a Gordon Setter bitch once that was so fast she could(this is after I'd been warned to watch for it) jump up and pinch your nipple and be away long before your hand came down to swat her. She was just as fast at french kissing, but that's another story. Ed

Jbird- Winston comes from a long line of Champion show Aussies, but he has never been shown. That's just not my thing. I just wanted a quality animal.

James & Ed- Thank you for your nice comments. He is an amazing dog. A far as his physical abilities; he has no problem hearding greyhounds at the dog park. He has crazy speed. I have yet to see a faster dog. Getting into a debate about who's dog would kill who's is a bit machismo for my taste, but if I where a betting man, I'll take a Dogo Argentino.

Adam- Thanks for your comment as well.

Guys, I'm sorry to possibly prolong or continue any sort of heated debate.

Having seen Aussies perform herding demonstrations that totally blew me away, I am drawn to say that I believe them to be very intelligent dogs. I have also heard them described as "the smartest dog." How that is measured or how much bias was behind that statement is unknown to me but from what I've seen I have little reason to not believe that it's true.......I digress, I think that it is very safe to say that Aussies are intelligent dogs.

On the flip side, Pits are very powerful thanks to years of breading. I have never seen their power in person but I've seen impressive video evidence. No doubt that if they are conditioned to violence, they can be a deadly bread. Yet if they are conditioned to love they can be very docile. I think that it is safe to say that Pit Bulls are very powerful and impressive dogs.

Wow, I didn't mean to type this much, I simply wanted to say that both breads of dogs are impressive and worthy of loyal owners!

For me I, could care less about the pedigree, if the dog is obedient and mild tempered I am very pleased. For me a good personality is of the utmost importance. I would take a lovable and loyal mutt over an over-intelligent, muscular, boring or unruly pure breed.

There my rant is over :D

Hey guys, I'm not tripping :)

I posted a lot on Pit Bull Forum, and you really learn a lot spending time on that board. But after a while it appears that there are some regulars that just rant and talk about the same thing over and over again and everyone chimes in...

I would definitely agree that Aussies are a fast breed, not to mention exceptionally good at frisbee. Will sure herd a lot better than my dog

Dogos are an exceptionally powerful dog, part of the mastiff breed. Looks very similar to an APBT, but larger and all white. Great dog to have on a farm and protect the family.

One thing I forgot to mention, Diane Jessup, who runs Law Dogs in WA, had a dog named Bandog Dread, who held more working titles than any other breed: Ch. Bandog Dread, SchH III, IPO III, U-CDX, CD, TD, WDS, STD-d, STD-s, B, WH, to name a few! Goes to show what an APBT and the proper trainer can do! I believe another dog has passed Dread's accomplishments, but I am unsure of the breed..
