Fished the creek yesterday morning for several hours. Water was really ripping. Fished a turnout about a quarter mile down from the bridge and managed one 16" rainbow and LDR'd another. Fished the bridge section later and got skunked. Fished just upstream of some teenager using salmon eggs and split shot. Watched him quickly catch seven 12" trout on seven consecutive casts. Really deflated me. Couldn't reach the seam he was fishing due to inability to roll cast 30'.

don't worry.. soon enough it will be artificial only water..... =)

Then we can have the whole creek to ourselves.

What rod/line combo were you using that made it hard to roll cast 30 ft???

Roll casts are my favorite 8)

8' Powell IM6 4wt Lloaded w/ Airflow wf4 floating line. The tree canapy overhead and behind made it too difficult for my poor casting abilities.

Hate to sound like a worry wart here, but how do you guys treat your waders, boots, and gear after fishing Putah to eliminate the transfer of NZMS. Ed

I either freeze them overnight or dunk them in 140 degree water for about 10 minutes. I'm not a fan of bleaching my gear. I've heard that a 50/50 mix of Formula 409 (commercial strength) works well, also. I'm not sure about the disposal of this mixture. That's why I prefer the freezer or hot water.

I believe I've read on other fly fishing sites that the Formula 409 mixture does not consistently control NZMS.

From what I've read, the DF&G recommends this solution. It must be the "Commercial Solutions" Formula 409, though. You can pick up at Home Depot.

Clearly I had an attack of CRS :D

I suffer from CRS myself. I think there are support groups but I forgot where. :D

I have seperate waders and boots for putah.... then I don't have to worry about any of that stuff. There are some real inexpensive boots and waders to be had out there and its always nice to have an extra pair to introduce new friends to the sport.
