Here is a picture of the new fly that was so effective on this trip. Actually, the baitfish patterns on the left were the flies I used, and the flies on the right are an extension of that design.

Very easy pattern to tie and is very "light on the water" yet sinks very slowly. When stripped it actually rises in the water column. If stripped continuously it will ride in the film. This pattern could be effective for many species, in different sizes.
It really takes a variety of fly types to be effective in the Yucatan, from floating to traditional sinking flies, and everywhere in between. Trying to keep the fly at or above the fish without spooking them is always a challenge.
