So, I finally made it out to the river again this year. I scouted my usual shad spot.... I saw no fish holding so I switched into striper mode. Went down to my usual stiper spot but couldn't cross due to the rise in flows.... wasn't deep but it was moving quick. Moved down river and found a nice drop off.... Found some fish but right when it was getting dark I noticed a large mayfly come off the water..... then a few minutes later one popped up right in front of me....still clinging to the shuck.... sure enough it was a nice yellow hex... anyone else seeing em on the American?? This is my second sighting in 3 years.... I was in a sandy location with low current btw... Also saw tons of caddis flirting the waters......

I believe they come off in July in the PM on ponds along the river.

If you go out to Lake Natoma in the evening with some binoculars on a calm night you will see lots of them on the water. They usually hatch in the slack water on the sides.

Ducks and all fish eat them.

We caught some nice Rainbow trout there on calm summer evenings.

We have pattern for them in the shop.

Fishing from a float tube, pontoon boat, kayak, canoe or small boat is best.
