View Full Version : Utah Tiger Muskie
Cody and I finally got into some Tiger muskie at Newton res. here in Cache valley . The fly that worked the best was a yellow Lefty Deceiver.
I was not going to fish due to feeling a little under the weather. But after Cody hooked one, he has asked if I would like to take a cast or two. A few casts later and I also had one on. Removing the hook from these guys is like removing tonsils from a alligator, if they had any. Cody's fish was hooked in the tongue and these fish do not want to open their mouths. Had to use a small peace of thrift wood to keep its mouth open long enough to remove the hook . The tiger muskie are very pretty fish.

Wow! Those are some world class predators. The fish don't look half bad either. :D I really like your "breathable waders". Ed

Yep, those are spectacular! I doubt there are many of us who have caught one of those on a fly rod. Very cool! :)
I guess they are a Muskie/ Pike hybrid and are sterile .
SoThis way fish and Game can control them from overpopulating or going elsewhere and destroying a fishery . Cody's was just under 30'' and they only allow people to keep them when over 40'' . so its a cool place to catch some trophy fish. The lake is full of small bluegill and bass also. Plenty of small fish for the T- Muskie to eat !! :D The lake was dry two years ago because of a drought. So they re-planted them at around 15 '' long. They have grown a lot since then !!
Rob, those are some great-looking fish!

My dad (he lives in Lehi) said that it was 90 degrees the other day. The next day it was snowing. That's some crazy weather!
Well the weather was not too bad. :) But Cody kicked my butt fishing today . :D :) He hooked 4 and landed 3 . The first one he hooked was another 30' + fish . Cody lost his grip on the fish just before I got my camera ready. Cody used a streamer that was 6'' long and was orange and green in color and that looked like a Sun Perch. I used a yellow lefty Deceiver again but didn't get even one hit. :? Here are some photos of two of the three he landed. :D

You could post pictures of those things all day long and I wouldnt get tired of looking at 'em. Love the spotted tails. How is the fight? What kind of leader system and line type do you use.
Really neat!!

The smaller ones fight more for their size than the bigger ones.
They would take 4-5 long hard runs before tyring. The big one would take only one or 2 long runs then roll over on their sides .,
We used 7 wt rods with sink tip and these leaders.
I crimped the leaders to small clips so we could change the flies at will.

Here is the fly Cody used that worked great on the T. Muskie .
I bet it would work in Davis lake for the pike !!
