Speaking of Smallies...

My quest this sring/usmmer is to get into some good smallmouth fishing. I've picked-up occasional fish in Berryessa, New Malones and Del Valle but I'm really interested in floating a river for them in a kayak or kick-boat. I know about the Russian and may give it a look if/when we head up there for Memorial Day but I'd appreciate any other suggestions from this group.

Although not close by, the South Umpqua near Medford, OR is a world class smallmouth fishery. I used to fish it often when I went to the U of O. It's about a 6 hour drive from Palo Alto (where I grew up). There are also smallies in the lower reaches of the Feather River.
