With the lower flows this year we should have a good Shad season.

The past two Springs were just too high for a good fly fishing for Shad.

We usually find them at the mouth of the American River and the mouth of the Feather River first. It is an anchored boat deal until the flows get low enough for wading off the sandbar at the mouth of the Feather. The Sac and Feather have to be low for this to happen but when it does, it's really cool. We might have an outing there too.

April is usually the start but May and June are the real deal.

June is the big month for wading the upper reaches of the Sacramento, Feather, Yuba and American Rivers.

For those of you who live or work near one of these areas it is best to keep your gear in your vehicle and fish after work right up till dark during the week.

FRG posted the following on NCFFB:

GOOD NEWS! the SHAD are starting to show at Verona!!
There are also two, maybe three new sand bars that will make it easy to cast to shad in the Feather below Beercan beach!
Ther wer four fly guys tring for shad and I saw one brought to hand as we drove by on our way home.
The Feather is low and only running at 2400 cfs, so the sand bars and Shanghai Rapids could turn on next week for shad. FRG
