How did you get them critters to hold so still ??
What lens do you have ??
I just ordered a canon 20 D and I understand the lens that comes with it is a peace of junk. :( So I am also looking for a new lens. I manly want to do close up and landscape. Any recommendations ? Hopfuly will not cost a arm and a leg !! I would like to also do some wildlife some day but then we are really talking $$$$$$$$$$$$$. This question is open to any of you good folks !!

Thank you !!!

Robk.

I got lucky, and of course i was crawling on my stomach. My elbows were raw for a couple of days. For some reason the
lizard was just sitting there, i could almost touch him.

What lens do you have ??

The lens i am using is a vivitar series 1 90mm 2.5 macro.

If you want to do both landscape and close-up in one lens, the sigma 17-70 is supposed to be a very good lens, and it
can go up to about 1:2 magnification. If you don't know what 1:2 magnification is, well the easiest way i can
explain it is the last picture is around 1:2.

In fact, without the macro converter for my vivitar 90mm, it only goes to 1:2, and all of these were shot without it, so you
could get similar results.

Here is a link to the lens.

If you are seriously interested in wildlife, pull out that credit card.

Good luck with your search, and ask more questions if you need to.

Sweet pics bro. Love them grasshopper shots, hoppers and beetles mid-summer tend to be my best bet.

I love wildlife photography too, but all I have is a little digital that fits and my pocket and a 35mm Minolta from 1992 with 2 lenses that use to be my dads. What set-up do you use and how much did it cost?

I am using a nikon d50 and a vivitar series 1 90mm 2.5 macro lens. You can get the body, used, for around $400,
and the lens was $120. The lens is completely manual, manual focus and manual metering, but you can find some
good new af lens for relatively cheap.

If you have any more questions please ask.

hey rob,

my name is justin bailie and i am actually am a photographer. most of the lenses i buy would probably get you a couple three new sage rods, so i am not that familiar with the "all in one" lenses, but i will say that i use a canon 50 2.5 which is a macro and will only cost you about $250. it is one of my favorite lenses. for sure. few things about it:

- it is one of the sharpest lenses i own
- the front element (glass) itself is actually set back inside the lens, so even if it gets banged around, the glass will not be damaged
- because of the fixed 50mm length, which is the old standard which came with cameras 30+ years ago, it has this old nostalgic look
-this length of lens is also great for shooting fish images that you've caught. you know, if you are by yourself.

anyway, it might not be what you are looking for as it does not have the wide angle look for landscape, but for $250, why not eh?

hope that is a little helpful.

adios!
