After a morning of great striper fishing I finally made time to get over to the east delta around Eight Mile Road to try some top water bass fishing. Unfortunately we had two strikes against us. First, it was low water, and second and the REAL problem, the wind was blowing 20mph with gusts to 30. The water had been whipped to a froth and there was mud all along the shorelines.
Even so, we're getting to that magic number, 70, when topwater comes alive. With some fair weather next week it should be prime time.
The area is very fishable, even with float tubes. I'd suggest staying within marina boundaries if fishing the weekends so you don't get run over by the water skiers. There are many marinas and tons of fishable bass water.
Just look on your maps of Eight Mile Road, west of I-5, north of Stockton.
