I am planning to visit relatives in Sacramento this weekend and am thinking of trying the lower American. I will be wade fishing and was wondering what would be best to target and location for this time of year - native trout, springer steelhead, stripers, bass, shad? Thanks.

Stripers and Spring Steelies .

Use the 7 wt. w/ a sinking shooting head or integrated sink-tip , 9-12 foot leaders to 10 lb. test , and size #2 Gray/White Clousers .

That's how I do it at this time of year . Good luck !

Access points to the American can be viewed at the Sacramento County website:

If you're not overly familiar with the river, I would recommend that you stick to the access points around the major cross streets (e.g. Sunrise, Watt Ave., or at the hatchery (Hazel Avenue).

Good luck.... :D :D :D
