View Full Version : Gotta Question

I have a simple question that I need an answer too.
Is the name "Zara Spook" copy righted? I've seen different manufactures with the same name on the plugs but just a little different style and color

I mean is the name zara spook like the name adams, humpy, clouser, etc.

I'm getting ready to market my hairy crank bait patterns, zara spooks, float/sliding minnows and rattle traps and don't want to ruffle any feathers.

Thanks

Jay

Yup. I believe the names "zara spook" and "rattle trap" are both signature names from the company who started the design. Same situation as a "Xerox" copy machine. Safer not to use the names.
Cheers, K..............

Maybe I'll have a "name the fly" contest :D

Earlier today, I tied up a massive crank bait. It's about the same size as the standard crank bait lure. But since then, I've been tearing down my '66 Mustang engine. I got the intake manifole and water pump off and will be taking the exhaust manifolds off later this evening. Gawd the smell of grease reminds me why I quit being a mechanic. I'm glad they have those rubber gloves. Saves the grease from getting under the finger nails. Body work is the next step.

Time to clean up and get back to the tying bench.

Is it raining in your area

Are you going to restore the mustang ??

Jay,

I am not a lawyer, but have gotten a number of trademarks for business purposes.

I am 99.9% certain you need a trademark, not a copyright. Copyright is for written material or pictures, while a trademark is for items used in commerce.

You can get an understanding of the differences (& what you need) at the US Patent & Trademark Office's website:
http://www.uspto.gov/web/trademarks/workflow/start.htm

You can serch the US Trademark Database (TESS) to see if anyone has filed a trademark on whatever name you decide:

http://tess2.uspto.gov/bin/gate.exe?f=tess&state=qnbuk3.1.1

Although you can file your own trademark online, you are probably better off to use a trademark attorney. US Trademark Office charges $325 to file a trademark.

Good Luck,

JWP,

Thanks for the info. I'll check into something.

Brad,

I hope to get the "tang" restored. I've already been working on a '67 Porsche 912. I started that project back in the '70's and it's still sitting in boxes over in Monterey. Why too costly to complete the project. I think I will eventually sell it to a guy in San Jose. My first car was a '57 chevy.
Grand little car

It's back to tying flies

Hey Jay...My first car was a '57 Chevy also. Orange...2-door...3 on the tree. Bought it for $125. Got it home and it never went any further...Cracked engine block  BUT, it was my first car :D But, the best car I ever had was a 1963 Oldsmobile Dynamic 88! 394 V-8 Holly 4 barrel...gold...4-door...bought it for $300 with 48,000 miles on it! Like an idiot I sold it within a year! Don't ask!

...back to fly fishing!
