Pretty much, all of these were handheld with the 300 except for the stilt.

The hawk is a Swainson's Hawk. Excellent pictures!!!

Easy i.d., Redtailed hawk. Swainson's hawk has the darkened lower side to the rear of the wing, not the leading edge.

I believe Terry is correct.

The diagnostics that nail it for me are:

1. The dark edged shoulder area
2. The lack of dark remidges (look at the flight feather’s tips all the way along the wing)
3. The translucent effect of the inner primary feathers
4. Finely barred tail pattern
5. Light chest area
6. Dark mottled waist area

The one element that might be tripping some folks up is the lack of “red” tail feathers. Juvenile Red-tailed Hawks don’t have any red tail feathers.

This juvenile hawk appears to be in the light phase of its plumage.

Gotta love those Buteos!

bolden, once again nice job. Love the hawks, the clarity with that lens is amazing. But my favorite composition wise has got to be the meadowlark singing. Thats a money shot right there. Keep them coming....Craig.
