I went out to Drake's Beach last evening. Hit the absolute bottom of the outgoing and the first three hours of the incoming. It took me a couple of hours to find those little buggers but about an hour before sunset the tide created a "nervous" place just off shore on the west end of the beach that was full of Barred Surf Perch. Three to hand, several strikes and an LDR.
I wanted to stay longer but it was getting dark and I was about a half mile from my car. When I turned from the surf to head back, I noticed that there was not another soul in sight. It was really revealing. I had the sense--standing there between the sea and the high cliffs and miles of beach running on both sides of me --that I was the last person on earth. To my amazement, it was strangely comforting.
I guess I have finally found my home waters.
