Mr KIene, 153 feet was cast by the winner, Gordon Armstrong, same name as the person who casted the world record. Do not know if it is the same person.
Heard that he was using a CND rod.

That guy could spey cast a coat hanger longer than most of us could a 16' 10 wt. Some people just "have it" when it comes to spey casting, that's all.
From a practical perspective, thank God casting 150-200 feet isn't really needed for most of the situations we face here in CA and Oregon. If I had to cast 150 feet to hook fish, I'd be in serious trouble. I've hooked and landed steelhead at 125 feet and for me it wasn't very easy.
By the way Gordon is affiliated with Carron rods (he's on their casting team), I think the CND quote was meant as a joke, at least I thought it was pretty funny  .
