Hi guys,

I'm looking for a hook that is suitable for panfish/bass bugs, around a size 12 or 14. I really like the TMC 8089, but the smallest they go to is 10. Anyone have recommendations? I really want to tie up a few mini-Dahlberg divers, but I can't find a hook with a wide enough gape. I recall seeing a book by Jack Ellis where he tied some bass bugs in size 12 - 14 specifically for panfish, but I can't remember the hook models. Help is appreciated.

Partridge has a nice sedge hook that would be good I think. It's shaped kind of like the 8089 but smaller.....I do not know the model off hand but I'll post it later..

Try a Daiichi 2462 nickel plated, wide gape, long shank they are recommended for pike and bass. I think they might work out for you in the smaller sizes. My 2 cents

You didn't say what length of shank you'd like.... Sooo, I've been tying all my bass bugs on Gamakatsu, model B-10. It's a black finish, wide gap hook. Not sure they come in the size you want, tho. They're very good for tying in a mono hook gaurd, too.

I tie a spider pattern on hooks from size 10 thru 14, Mustad, model 3906 for sunnies. 8) 8)

Mustad # 3367 is the one I use for Sunnies - size #8

Anything smaller will drop those 2-6 lb. Largemouth that eat tiny flies  Guess how I know this ....?

David :D

P.S. - you won't find the 3367 , go w/ the 3366 .

What with the warm weather we've been having, it's time to start cranking out those topwater bugs! Thanks for the suggestions!
