Hey guys,
I figured I'd go an open another can of worms, so I'll be heading up north to take a spey lesson with Jeff Putman.
Its a bit of a drive from where I'm at, so I'll probably be up there fishing for a few days with a single hand rod (haven't bought a spey yet).
What grain weight lines are you swinging with and what flies are working?
What are good patterns for dead drifting out there? The standard CJs, princes, poopahs or do you have some local mojo patterns I could tye in advance? Are you guys using egg patterns also this time of year (mid-Feb)?
Its probably been 4 or so years since my last couple trips to the american, so any info would be appreciated.
Definitely looking forward to at least getting on some water up there and dropping by the shop.

Paul, I would like to give you some advice on what's been the best bet lately but I will have to admit I haven't been doing anything on the river since I caught a fish 3 weeks ago. The fish I have heard being caught by the fly have been on leech patterns. Articulated, egg sucking and buggers. Black and purple to my knowledge. The gear guys are doing well on gold spoons it sounds like. Let us know when you're in the area, it would be fun to meet up with ya. Would like to talk a little corvina with ya.

Thanks for the info guys. Right now, its looking like the weekend of the 17th, but I need to firm up dates with Jeff via email.
I'll most likely be up there friday, saturday & sunday, leaving for the long drive back home on monday.
It would definitely be fun to meet folks from the board while up up there for fishing or just shooting the breeze over a beer.

I'm always happy to chat about corbina...they're my no. 1 fly fishing affliction with steelhead right behind.
Two frustrating species at times, but oh so much fun when the stars align.
I guess it is good both seasons are opposite. I'd really have a tough time deciding what to do otherwise:)

Paul, I couldn't remember if it was a "B" or a "V" it's been a while since I've had to think. So the "B's" are surf and the "V's" are Salton Sea. I'll be able to keep that straight for at least a couple of hours. Had many fun days chasing the Corbina around Torre Pines. Fished Blacks Beach a few times. When it would warm up we usually faced the beach and casted over our shoulders. Boy, that was a long time ago, no wonder I can't remember anything.

You got it straight B for the surf and V for Salton Sea(Orange Mouth Corvina).

PaulC, nice looking set-up, I uhave the same exept I'm using an XP, love the Galvans. Your a lot like me except it's the opposite, Steelhead first then the Corbs. Both fish are hard to get but fight like freight trains when hooked.

I wish I could offer some info but I haven't had a chance to get back up there since the opener. I did hook some fish on an egg and caddis dropper combo when I was up there. Scale down the Caddis Pupa to sz14 and a light FC tippet(4x) and pray.
