I was reading Darians and Jay's posts about their Pig Boats and thought I might as well try a few. Did one to original specs then had to add bunny strips and start playing around. Hey you guys, those cone heads your using, what size are they and do they make casting harder? I cheated on the rubber bands too, went to the Bass'n store and bought spinnerbait skirts. Looks like the only difference between them and the rubber legs called for in Nixon's recipe is 5 strands. 8) To save someone the trouble of going to the dictionary(like I did), here it is. Calcasieu, Cal-ka-shoe. Uh-oh, was I the only one who had a problem with that? Ed

Ed

Absolutely incredible ties!! I love the one on the bottom with the chartreuse/orange legs. I used 3/16 gold coneheads from spirit river. They are very easy to cast, the added weight is neglegable. And the great thing about them is they add just enough to keep the fly alive between strips. The fly will slowly dive, head first between strips. And during a fast strip it will kind of nod up and down.

Those flies are going to serve you well Ed! VERY nice.

Thanks for the kind words Jay. They were a blast to tie too. I'll try a few with coneheads now too. Ed

Hey Ed,.... Good lookin' flies. I knew if we kept up the talk about bassin' you'd be converted.   Like Jay, I use a cone head for my version. The size is ther same as Jay's but mine are crossed eyed coneheads..... :? :? Meaning they have an indentation/socket to place an eye in. I've been using 3-D eyes with a red background and black pupil in size 2.5. I don't use a rabbit strip for the tail, tho. I use a latex, flecked Fly Tail. So the weight of this cone is significant. It makes the fly ride head down and dive on landing. The tail is accuated during the drop. This version is for deep drop-offs or rip rap banks in reservoirs, etc. I'll post a photo when I get ready to mail 'em for the swap. 8) 8)

Again, Ed, great looking flies. 8) 8) Glad you got the bug.... :D :D

Hey Ed, any time Tom Nixon used rubber on his flies he used spinner skirts. Particuarly on his spinner flies. Those are some good looking flies.
If you ever have the chance ( or any of the rest of you) check out Tom's book.
